JAMAICA NEEDS

YOUR HELP

Since October 28, communities in Jamaica have been facing a humanitarian emergency after Hurricane Melissa — one of the most powerful tropical cyclones in Caribbean history.

More than 75 people lost their lives, and 6 million were affected across Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.

In Jamaica, the YMCA Community Center in Savanna-La-Mar — which has served its community for over 50 years — was severely damaged, leaving hundreds of families and young people without this vital support space.

Over 75 people have lost their lives and 6 million have been affected by Hurricane Melissa across the Caribbean.

With your donation, we can provide assistance and protection to the affected families.

Bear in mind that donations are made in US dollars (USD) and that the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance of YMCAs does not issue tax-deductible receipts.

Here’s how we’re responding to the emergency:

The YMCA of Jamaica, together with the World YMCA, the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance of YMCAs, and the Y’s Men Service Clubs, is mobilizing an immediate response to address urgent needs and support communities through the recovery process.

From the Kingston YMCA, actions are being coordinated with the Red Cross, Food for the Poor, and other partner organizations to provide direct assistance to the hardest-hit areas.

Our priorities are:

  • Distributing food, water, and hygiene kits.
  • Providing emotional support to affected families.
  • Creating safe spaces for children and youth.
  • Rehabilitating the Savanna-La-Mar Community Center.
  • Strengthening local resilience through training in emergency preparedness and response.
