In a country with one of the highest drowning rates, teaching swimming is more than a recreational activity—it’s a matter of protection and life. That’s why, at the YMCA of São Paulo, with support from Delta Air Lines, we launched the Swimming Academy, a program that goes beyond sports.
It’s not just about learning techniques, but about building a culture of prevention from childhood, with active family participation. That’s what makes this project so valuable.
One of the most special moments of this program is the closing event, which over the years has become a highly anticipated tradition for our members. Families experience it with emotion because it combines children’s technical progress with play, joy, and family connection. The atmosphere is one of celebration, creativity, and shared pride.
Thanks to the sustained support of Delta Air Lines, we’ve been able to enhance this experience with details that make a difference. Each year, we incorporate elements that make the event truly magical for children and their families. And that, without a doubt, motivates them to continue learning and participating actively.
This program not only saves lives; it also promotes healthy habits, strengthens family bonds, and reminds us that sports can be a powerful tool for holistic development. As the YMCA, we remain committed to creating safe, inclusive, and healthy environments. Seeing the impact on each child and family is what drives us to continue.
